Day 31: God Does Not Show Favoritism

11 08 2010

Acts 10, 11, 12

Having never read Acts before, I found the most interest in chapter 10, while reading about God not showing favoritism.  Having made many attempts before in trying to read the Bible and attended enough sermons & Bible studies to read about God’s chosen.  I always wondered how it went from being salvation for few to all.

34Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism 35but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right. Acts 10:34-35

42He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. 43All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” Acts 10:42-43

9“The voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’ Acts 11:9

12The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man’s house. Acts 11:12

17So if God gave them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could oppose God?” 18When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, God has granted even the Gentiles repentance unto life. Acts 11:17-18

To have been within this company when this was revealed, must have just been such a blessing.  To have been taught that salvation was saved for the pure & clean your entire life and then to be revealed that “God has granted even the Gentiles repentance unto life.”

Dear Lord, thank you for who you are.  You show no favoritism to one group of people – as long as they fear you. To cover all of our transgressions and blanket us in salvation, is the greatest gift that I will be presented with. Thank you for having chosen me – I hope to be an instrument (still yet to figure it out) for your ministry.  Thank you for letting me trust in your will. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
