Look At All the Lonely People

27 07 2010

Loneliness is something all people feel some of the time, and some people feel all of the time.  Even some prominent Bible characters wrestled with that awful dilemma of feeling cut off and isolated.

King David:

11 Because of all my enemies,
I am the utter contempt of my neighbors;
I am a dread to my friends—
those who see me on the street flee from me.

12 I am forgotten by them as though I were dead;
I have become like broken pottery. (Psalm 31:11-12)

Job:

13 “He has alienated my brothers from me;
my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.

14 My kinsmen have gone away;
my friends have forgotten me. (Job 19:13-14)

The apostle Paul:

16At my first defense, no one came to my support, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them.  (2 Timothy 4:16)

It isn’t just homeless people or society’s outcasts who feel the sting of loneliness.  We live in a world filled with lonely people.  if you’re lonely, pray for insight when reading His word, to fill the loneliness with life, to use you to bring comfort to others .
